Your Spiritual DNA - Joel & Victoria Osteen

“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.”
(Romans 8:14, NIV)

Have you ever really considered your spiritual DNA? Your Heavenly Father spoke worlds into existence. He flung stars into space. He painted every sunrise. He designed every flower. He made man out of dust and breathed life into him. Now here’s the key: He is not just the Creator of the universe. He is not just the all-powerful God. He is your Heavenly Father. You have His DNA. Imagine what you can do!

When you realize who you are, you won’t go around intimidated and insecure, thinking, “I’m lacking. I’m not that talented. I come from the wrong family.” No, you come from the right family. Your Father created it all. When you know who you are, it changes your thinking from, “I’m unlucky. I never get any good breaks” to “I have the favor of God. Blessings are chasing me down.” When you know who you are, you’ll start thinking like a winner, talking like a winner, carrying yourself like a winner, and soon, you’ll start living like a winner, too! Remember, you have the DNA of God, and that’s enough to overcome every obstacle in Jesus’ name!

Father, thank You for Your love for me. Thank You for adopting me into Your family and transforming my spiritual makeup. I know that I am empowered in You and through You and give You all the glory in Jesus’ name! Amen.

Highs -n- Lows Living with the Disease

Another Cold But Beautiful Day!
School is again two hours late..
So cold... -14 below...

I slept really good last night but woke up to the cold sensation on my right side.  Sipping coffee and waiting for the medicine to kick in... :-)

I'm happy for a good night sleep..... I know some will struggle with that.  It helps the day go a lot better when you wake up refreshed...

Yesterday was Nancee's funeral.  Her family continue to be in my thoughts and prayers...
Don't let the way a person died ever take away from the way they lived their life. Do not judge anyone and call them selfish. You need to have walked in their shoes and then judgment is still not ours. Hopefully, you will remember how they lived and their legacy will be one of love, laughter and fond memories of how they lived (and that you loved them).

I am so thankful for my family and friends...

The Pattern of Humility
Read | Philippians 2:1-11

Humility is characterized by an attitude that does not seek to exalt or assert oneself. In our world, this quality is certainly not found in everybody. But in God’s kingdom, it is an essential attribute for Christ-followers to have.

Jesus’ life was the definition of “humble.” To become a man, He gave up the glory, majesty, and power that were His in heaven. The Lord voluntarily emptied Himself—just as a glass of water is poured out—and for the purpose of serving us, surrendered all that He shared with His Father.

Not only that, but as a man, Jesus took on the role of a lowly servant. He lovingly submitted Himself to His Father’s plan and relinquished even earthly rights to rescue us from sin. He endured criticism, ridicule, unbelief, and, finally, crucifixion in order to help us. His humility knew no limit. He humbled Himself before the Father to become the Lamb of God, and He did so in full view of mankind, even when He was labeled a criminal and unjustly convicted. His life demonstrates the importance of being humble and gives us a clear pattern to follow.

The disciples missed the point until later on, since they didn’t expect a Messiah in the form of a servant. The leaders felt threatened because Jesus’ call to follow His lifestyle would not give them the importance they desired. The crowds were bewildered because they didn’t understand the danger of pride. But the Father saw Jesus’ meekness and was pleased.

What attitude does God see when He looks at you and me?

Looking forward to another great day...

Created for Goodness - Joel and Victoria Osteen

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
(Ephesians 2:10, NIV)

It’s easy to go through life thinking that we’re average; we’re ordinary. “There’s nothing special about me. I’m just one of the six billion people on earth.” No, when God created you, He put a part of Himself in you. You could say that you have the DNA of Almighty God. You are destined to do great things, destined to leave your mark on this generation. The truth is, there is nothing average about you; but too many times we don’t realize who we are. We focus on our weaknesses or what we don’t have. We focus on the mistakes we’ve made or the family from which we’ve come. We end up settling for mediocrity when we were created for greatness!

If you’re going to break out of average, you need to remind yourself every day, “I have the DNA of the Most High God. Greatness is in my genes. I come from a bloodline of champions.” If you’ll have the attitude of a champion, you’ll live the life of a champion and boldly embrace the blessings He has in store for you!

Father, thank You for preparing me to do the good works You have prepared. I am not average. I am not ordinary. I am created for greatness, and I belong to Almighty God. Thank You for Your faithfulness in Jesus’ name! Amen.

Another BEAUTIFUL Day!

I woke up this morning with a headache :-( puffiness under my eyes, matter in both eyes and sore.  Hoping after I eat and take my medicine I start feeling better.

Yesterday, I ran to Faribault to see grandmas and I realized I have lost some strength in my arms:-) I tried to hold the bottle for Gracie while she was sitting on grandma Gloria's lap.  My muscles hurt and I couldn't hold it for long.

I am also losing the grip in my hands.  I drop my keys and I'm unable to open things, like turning the door knob...it's the worst.
I walk in small steps and at times start to tip over and have to catch myself...Disappointed :-(
Today, I will run down to Winona to pick up medicine and just take it easy...

I am so thankful for all I can do...

Winning the Respect of Others

“So that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders...”
(1 Thessalonians 4:12, NIV)

When others look at your life, what do they see? Does your daily life win the respect of others? As believers, we are Christ’s representatives in the earth. We are called to a higher standard. The way we live our lives should bring glory to God the Father.

Notice this verse doesn’t say, “Go out of your way to do something major so that everyone will respect you.” It doesn’t say, “Win a gold medal or Pulitzer prize so that people will glorify your Father in heaven.” No, it says that your daily life should win the respect of others. That simply means to always take the high road and live a life of excellence. It means doing the right thing even when no one is looking. It means finding common ground in order to be a peacemaker. It means going out with an attitude of faith and thanksgiving.

Remember, you will become like whomever you spend the most time with. If you are committed to spending time with God the Father every day, you’ll develop His character. You’ll win the respect of outsiders and bring glory to your Father in heaven!

Father, today I dedicate every area of my mind, will and emotions to You today. Help me live my daily life as an example of Your love. Let me honor You in all I do so that my daily life wins the respect of others in Jesus’ name! Amen.

A Life of Peace
Read | Isaiah 26:2-4

Your home offers protection from the elements. So when a storm rolls in, you seek shelter within the safety of those four walls. The same principle applies to life’s storms. If we’ve built a solid house on a foundation of faith, then we’ve got a haven to run to when dark clouds gather and anxiety threatens to overwhelm us.

Let’s suppose a problem is worrying you, and your stomach is in knots. Friends and family try to be understanding, but they’re growing weary of you taking your heartache out on them. You are so focused on the issue that it feels as if your shoulders are bearing a heavy weight. Now listen to the liberating alternative God offers: “Cast your burden upon [Me] and [I] will sustain you” (Ps. 55:22). He doesn’t erase the ills that invade this life. Instead, He shields us from the weight of worry by taking situations into His own hands.

However, the call to a free and peaceful life goes unheeded unless a person has confidence in the Lord. Trust is built through relationship—praying during daily trials and triumphs, seeking biblical guidance for decisions, and testing God’s Word to see that it is true and practical. That’s how a house of faith is constructed brick by brick on the solid rock of Jesus Christ.

A believer who trusts in the Lord receives the peace that Isaiah 26:3 promises. But unshakeable peace isn’t instantaneous; it is cultivated through a consistent relationship with God. A lifestyle of dependence upon Him is the key to weathering storms with supernatural calm.

Looking forward to another great day...

Your Story Ends in Victory - Joel & Victoria Osteen

Your Story Ends
in Victory

“You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.”
(Psalm 139:16, NLT)

In difficult times, you have to remind yourself that nothing is a surprise to Almighty God. He’s not up in the heavens scratching His head, saying, “Oh, man, he got laid off. That messed up everything.” “Oh, she was diagnosed with cancer.” “Joseph was thrown into a pit.” “Joel lost his father. Now what am I going to do?” No, God knows the end from the beginning. He has already written every day of your life in His book. The good news is that if you will stay in faith, your book ends in victory.

The next time you face an unexpected challenge, remember, it’s no surprise to God. He already has the answer, the provision, the healing you need. Keep standing, keep praying, keep hoping and keep believing that your story isn’t over until your story ends in Victory!

Father, thank You for the strength I need to overcome in every area of my life. I know that You hold the days of my life in the palm of Your hand. I believe that You have equipped me with everything I need for spirit, soul and body in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Prevent Osteoporosis

Discover The 4 Steps to Prevent Osteoporosis

We don’t need to wait until we are old to notice bone loss. It can even start in our early to mid 30s. Osteoporosis is a progressive bone disease that is characterised by a decrease in bone mass and density, and that leads to an increased risk of fracture. It is more common in women due to hormonal changes of menopause and it affects 25% of American women. So what can you do to prevent osteoporosis or even reverse it?

Here are 4 steps to help you prevent osteoporosis from becoming even more widespread:

1. Nutrition

Diet and digestion play an essential role in preventing and healing osteoporosis. The absorption of all nutrients and calcium depends on proper stomach acid secretion. Almost 95% of people older age of 50 have low digestive enzyme secretion. Caffeine, sugar, red meat, alcohol and smoking are first on the list of things to avoid. Soft drinks and canned juices wash out bone calcium because of phosphoric acid. Some drugs may put you at risk of osteoporosis with prolonged use. Eat a low protein, low fat diet, and consume a lot of dark green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, soy products and seaweed.

2. Calcium

Calcium is essential for building and maintaining bone, and thus is essential to prevent osteoporosis. Calcium combines with other minerals form hard crystals that give your bones strength and structure. Foods rich in calcium are yogurt and dairy products, sardines, salmon, snapper, oysters, almonds, tahini, dried figs, soybeans, cheakpeas, dark green leafy vegetables, cabbage, Lebanese cucumber and Brazil nuts. Some people just can’t seem to get enough calcium in their diet. These people may need to take a calcium supplement, but this should be discussed with a physician, as calcium supplements can have some side effects and have been associated with some risks. It should also be mentioned that calcium alone is often not enough. Without magnesium, calcium may be not fully utilized, as magnesium is needed for calcium absorption. Click here to get more information about calcium for healthy bones.

3. Exercise

At any age, exercise is essential for maintaining healthy bones. Strength building exercises such as weight lifting are the most effective for building bone density. However any type of exercise is helpful, including low impact exercise such as walking, yoga and regular stretching.

4. Hormonal balance

The adrenal glands may play important roles in osteoporosis. They produce all the sex hormones in men and after menopause in women as well. Healthy adrenals produce enough estrogen after menopause to maintain adequate estrogen levels. Strengthening the adrenals and thyroid glands using nutritional balancing is a more natural approach than taking estrogen replacement therapy. As thyroid gland dysfunction may be also serious risk factors of osteoporosis, click here to read my popular recipe for easy and effective tonic for thyroid disorders.

Chronic stress with its continuous steroid production by the adrenal glands is a strong osteoporosis trigger in men, and especially in women. In the latter, the adrenals metabolize the sex hormone progesterone into cortisol, causing a higher risk for bone loss. If your adrenals are not in balance, osteoporosis may be waiting around the corner. This condition may be improved through a detox program to strengthen and purify the adrenal glands. Although detox supplements are available on the market, you can support your adrenal health by choosing specific foods and following a home cleansing program. If you are interested in detoxifying your body, you can find more useful information in The Detox Guide. This guide will teach you how to use detox to cleanse and energize your body naturally and safely:

Below you can find herbal infusion that is great for the adrenal glands to ensure they perform at their best and are balanced:

Adrenal Detox Herbal Infusion

1 part ginger
1 part licorice
1 part wild yam
1/2 part chaste tree berry
1/2 part cinnamon
1/4 part dong quai

Place the herbs in a saucepan and cover with cold water and cover. Heat slowly and simmer for 20-45 minutes. The longer you simmer the herbs, the stronger the infusion  will be. Drink 2-3 cups a day.

Philippians 4:6-7

Anxiety is the enemy of a peaceful life. People go to great lengths to get rid of stress: travel ads promise vacations will sweep you away from it; gyms offer to help you “sweat it out”; and popular magazines suggest ways to lessen it by adjusting schedules or habits. The problem is that no one can adequately shift circumstances to achieve total freedom from heartache, burdens, or trouble.

However, we can have unshakeable peace during anxious times. Jesus said to seek peace in Him because He has overcome this world (John 16:33). The key is to shift our focus from the scary problem onto God, who lovingly provides whatever we need from His limitless resources and power (Ps. 50:10; Rom. 8:11).

Serenity can’t be manufactured—it’s a gift from our heavenly Father. His Spirit produces a sense of calm in believers who seek the Lord’s protection against anxiety (Gal. 5:22). The Greek word translated as guard in today’s passage literally means “to garrison about.” God wraps hearts and minds in peace, effectively safeguarding both against all-consuming worry or fear. Notice that He doesn’t make problems go away—we may still be under pressure or prone to weep, but we are cushioned against anxiety and encircled by peace as well.

Today’s verses tell us to pray rather than give in to anxiety. These words are Paul’s orders for doing battle against the stresses and troubles of this world. Prayer keeps your mind and heart garrisoned with peace. Keep trusting in God so that your defenses are strong and anxiety cannot slip in.

We were able to get out yesterday and run down to Winona to pick up some groceries and my medication.  The snow on the sides of our road were higher than the roof of our truck.
Old man winter isn't giving in...it sounds like we could get another inch or so tomorrow
... :-(  This morning when I was heading to church the temperature was -2.  Brrr... We are expecting below zero temperatures several days again this week...

The shingles have been giving me trouble again.  I've been getting the shooting pains going up and down my leg.  I've been bruising alot more.  I have bruises on my hand and legs. I also had some swelling around my eyes. :-(

I'm so thankful for all I can do...

Everyone has moments in their lives when they feel overwhelmed by the path they are on...not knowing which direction to take.

When I get to those times...I turn to prayer...I let go and trust God has everything under control...

It's not always easy to let go...

I can also tell you, I've turned it over and then turned around and snatched it back. :-(

Lord, when I get to those times in my life when I don't know what to do or the direction to take please grant me your peace and take over. Amen

By Dr. Charles Stanley
Lam. 3:21-26

God’s people have only one way to face life: confidently. After all, He loves us, has saved us from eternal death, and is committed to guiding us through every moment of life. God wants us to live confidently—but too often we allow feelings of personal inadequacy and unworthiness to derail our faith.

The apostle Paul lived through horrendous circumstances—rejected by his Jewish peers, stoned, abandoned for dead, ridiculed, ignored, and often beaten and imprisoned for his devotion to Christ. But Paul continued to maintain a confident hope, right up to the very end. How did he manage this?

The apostle recalled one simple truth: “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me” (Phil. 4:13). He focused on his Lord, just as Jeremiah had: “Great is Your faithfulness. ‘The LORD is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘Therefore I have hope in Him”’ (Lam. 3:23, 24).

The classic hymn “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” expands on this important idea. The next time you sing it, don’t miss its wonderful message: God is faithful and does not change (Heb. 13:8). In this one truth, we find our reason for hope and unwavering confidence. The Lord’s unchanging nature teaches us that even when we feel unlovely, we remain beautiful to Him. We can do nothing to change His love for us—it is unconditional and flows freely from His throne of grace. He never changes, and He is faithful to keep all of His promises.

Do you trust God? Have you experienced the strong assurance that comes from placing your faith in His unfailing love? He loved you unconditionally yesterday, and He loves you with the same love today and tomorrow—forever. Therefore, roll the burden of your heart onto Him, and you will discover that you, too, can sing, “Great is Thy faithfulness.”

Another Beautiful Morning!
Yesterday, I received some shocking news about a friend...I cried trying to understand why this happened.  In the local newspaper and surrounding community papers there was an article about a woman going in the water on the Mississippi River in Wabasha.   I'm still crying this morning for her family and for her :-(  My heart is heavy and saddened by this... :-(

When Paul and I go to bed, we pray together...last night we were praying for Nancee's family and friends.  After our prayers we spent time talking.  Our conversation was about the news and why this happened???? Then we talked about why my first husband, Greg died the way he did???  He died of an overdose of medication...what was he thinking before it happened??? What was Nancee thinking before it happened????
Why? Why? Why?  So often our thoughts turn away from who they were as a person and we get consumed by what just happened and judge them because of the circumstances that surround their death...why?  Don't judge just love them...
Greg and Nancee were both wonderful people and I was blessed to have known them.  They both made an impact on my life in many ways and I'm thankful for that. :-)
I received the greatest compliment anyone could receive, from Nancee...
One day Pat, Nancee and I were sitting in the breakroom at St. Felix and Nancee said  "Julie when I see you, I see Jesus,". My goal in life is to walk as Jesus walked and live as Jesus lived.  I want to be the example of a good person both inside and out.
When she said this I was floored.  I didn't feel like I had achieved my goal.  Walking everyday like Jesus is something I work on everyday with the help of the Holy Spirit. :-). I am human...

So many times in our lives we ask ourselves WHY?
Why did this happen to Nancee?
Why did Greg die the way he did?
Why did Paul get Leukemia?
Why did I get DM and Lupus?
And the many other questions...the medical expenses, the medication I take, the changes in our lifestyle, the reason things don't get taken care like we think they should, in the timing we think they should???  Why?Why?Why?

I know even in the midst of our everyday life, we have become stronger because of what we have gone through and what we are still going through...each day is a blessing. I need to be thankful for everyday and everyone :-). I take nothing for granted.

So thankful for my family and friends...

Prayer-Based Planning
Read | Luke 14:28-30

In today’s passage, Jesus’ example of building a tower shows the importance of planning and using resources wisely. Otherwise, money may run out too soon.

Any financial plan should be covered with prayer. First, ask God for the wisdom to understand His teachings about money and how they apply to your situation. Next, pray for clarity about all details—including both the amount that is earned and what is spent.

One final step is to seek the Lord’s guidance in determining whether spending habits are in line with His priorities. In evaluating this, it is helpful to divide expenses into categories, including:

1. Giving to the local church, missionaries, and other organizations
2. Basic needs—food, clothes, and housing
3. Insurance, retirement plan, savings
4. Debt, such as excessive mortgages, loans, and credit cards
5. Personal spending on entertainment and extras—cell phones, Internet, cable TV, eating out, vacations, etc.

Some of us will discover that our finances are not in sync with scriptural principles, and that may be discouraging. If this is true of you, turn to the Lord, confess what has happened, and pray for the strength to handle your God-given resources His way.

Financial discipline is a learned skill. It requires a commitment to live according to Scripture, persistent effort to change bad habits, concentration to develop new ones, and faith that we can learn to live according to God’s priorities. We are blessed when we practice prayer-based planning.

The Influence of Our Convictions
Read | Daniel 1:1-21

Although our circles of influence vary in size, we all have the power to impact others—either for good or bad. Whether at home, in the church, or in the world, our lives are on display. Oftentimes we aren’t even aware of who is impacted by our words, attitudes, and actions.

Daniel didn’t set out with the purpose of making an impression on others, but something about him affected everyone who came in contact with him—from lowly servants to kings of empires. What made this young man stand out was his commitment to his convictions. He believed in the absolute truth of the Scriptures. When he was taken to Babylon, he “made up his mind” not to defile himself with the king’s food (v. 8); he knew that eating meat offered to idols was forbidden by the Mosaic law.

Daniel’s convictions—not his environment—determined his behavior. Our world offers a multitude of ways to compromise on what we know is right, but if we’ll make up our minds ahead of time, we’ll be able to stand firm in our obedience to God. Although a world that does not believe may mock our values and lifestyle, their respect for us actually lessens when we waffle and give in to temptations. What’s worse, our witness for Christ is damaged.

Conviction about God’s truth is like an anchor. When the winds of opinion blow and the waves of temptation pound us, we can know with certainty the right way to respond. Don’t vacillate in your obedience to the Lord. Your unwavering stand for what’s right can powerfully influence others.

Looking forward to another great day...

A Faith-Filled Outlook
Read | Genesis 39:21-40:8

If anyone had reason to be discouraged, Joseph did. His mother died when he was a boy. His brothers hated him, sold him into slavery, and convinced his father that he was dead. Joseph worked hard in Potiphar’s household but ended up in prison because of false allegations. Yet he was not an angry person.

The Hebrew slave maintained his faith- filled outlook because he consistently relied upon God, who was always with him. Even in prison, Joseph was given responsibility over others (vv. 21-22). Like that righteous young man, we might also be “held captive”—by unemployment, ill health, or a difficult relationship. In those hard places, we can nevertheless experience our Father’s presence and thrive: His Holy Spirit will produce godly fruit in us when we depend upon Him (Gal. 5:22-23).

Whatever his circumstances were, Joseph refused to focus on himself. When two royal servants were jailed, he had compassion for them and gave them aid. In times of both blessing and crisis, we are to help others in any way we can (2 Cor. 1:3-4). And notice, too, how Joseph didn’t shrink back from speaking boldly about God to these men and to Pharaoh. He told the Egyptian leader that the answer he sought regarding his dreams would come from the Lord (Gen. 41:16).

Whether enslaved, imprisoned, or serving as Pharaoh’s second-in-command, Joseph flourished. He endured much hardship but saw that the Lord had used it for good (Gen. 50:19-20). Because the Holy Spirit’s presence is within us, we—like Joseph—can have a faith-filled perspective that glorifies God.

Victor's Mentally - Joel and Victoria Osteen

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”
(Romans 8:37, NIV)

In scripture, Paul went through hard times. How did he come through? He wasn’t complaining, living in self-pity or despair. No, he shook off that defeated mindset and chose to have a vision of victory. This is what we have to do, too!

Remember, you’re not a weakling. You’re not lacking. The most powerful force in the universe is breathing in your direction. Every morning you need to remind yourself, “I am ready for and equal to anything that comes my way. I am full of can-do power.”

Listen, that sickness is no match for you. That relationship issue is not going to keep you from your destiny. The loss of that loved one did not stop God’s plan for your life. Don’t let it overwhelm you. You can handle it. You’ve been armed with strength! Keep a victor’s mentality because a victor’s mentality becomes a victor’s reality!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, thank You for the victory that overcomes the world — faith in Jesus Christ. Today I choose to trust You. I stand on Your promises and choose to live with a victor’s mentality in Jesus’ name! Amen.

Another BEAUTIFUL Day!

Yesterday, we had a very busy day.  I was very sore by the end of the day.  I over did it. :-(  I didn't sleep well.  I was In a lot of pain and had a bad flare.  Swollen, itching and extremely sore.  I took prednisone for relief but got no relief.  Woke up this morning early to take my morning meds.  I hope I get relief from those. :-(  I had shooting pains from my shingles again last night.  Very painful...

On the way home from Faribault, yesterday, I was listening to a Christian radio station.  They were telling a story about a young couple that just moved into a new apartment.  The couple was sitting at their table and could see the neighbor hanging out her laundry.  The husband listened as his wife said "she doesn't wash her clothes very good she should change her detergent.  Her clothes are still dirty."  A few days later the neighbor was hanging out her clothes again and the young wife mentioned again how her neighbor's washing didn't look clean.
A few days went by and the neighbor was out hanging up her laundry, this time, the wife noticed the laundry was white and mention to her husband she must have changed her detergent.  Her husband said "no I took it upon myself to clean the windows."

Isn't it true how we see people through our tunnel vision. Through a dirty lens or window.  We see what we want to see and judge others without knowing the circumstances or who this person really is.  Take the time to get to know someone before judging.  :-)

I'm not sure what I'll do today????  I need to pick up meds in Winona.  I'll see what I feel up to as my morning goes on. :-)
I may try to get a nap in...

I am so thankful for all I can do...

Why Listening Is Critical
Read | Nehemiah 8:9-12

Sometimes we take certain blessings for granted. Stop and think what it would be like if we couldn’t attend the church of our choice or read a Bible in our language.

During the 70-year Babylonian captivity, the temple and its sacrificial system weren’t available to the Israelites. And those born in that land didn’t understand the language of Scripture. So when the opportunity arose to hear God’s Word in Jerusalem, they were ready to listen.

Ezra read to them about the Lord’s promises to Abraham and his descendants, the covenants God made with the nation of Israel, and His requirements of faith and obedience. As the people listened with repentant hearts, they felt conviction and wept over their sins. But they also experienced joy because they were once again following the Lord’s commands. The people trusted not only the words of Scripture but also the men who explained its meaning.

The Bible is our source of truth about God’s righteous character, mankind’s sinful nature, and the plan of salvation. In its pages, we discover that man has a sin problem but no way to solve it on his own. We also learn that God’s just nature requires a penalty for transgression. Scripture goes on to reveal how divine justice was carried out against Jesus for our sin—that He died in our place, and through faith in Him, we receive forgiveness and the gift of eternal life. What an amazing provision from the God of love.

Good listening is essential, because faith comes from hearing God’s message (Rom. 10:17), and spiritual growth also depends on heeding what He tells us.

Let Your Love Grow

"We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing."

(2 Thessalonians 1:3, NIV)

God’s desire is to see you grow and increase in every area of your life—especially in your love for others. That’s because love is the greatest thing, and it is all that matters in eternity. At the end of the day, at the end of our lives here on earth, love is what will last forever!

Notice that this verse tells us that love and faith are connected. It says in another verse that faith works by love. Love isn’t about feelings and emotions; it’s about the choice to treat people the way God tells us to in His Word. The more we know Him, the more we know His Word, the more we will walk in love.

Today, I pray that your love will continue to grow and build a solid foundation for your faith. I pray that through your connection with the Father, you are strengthened in all of your relationships as you move forward into the life of blessing He has for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father, thank You for loving me and transforming me into Your image. Search my heart and mind today. Help me to love others the way You love me in Jesus’ name. Amen.

God Wants His Children to Listen
Read | Nehemiah 8:1-8

The principles in Scripture teach us the way to live holy lives. But in order to receive God’s instructions, we must learn how to hear Him speak through His Word.

In the days of Nehemiah, the Israelites who helped to rebuild Jerusalem were good listeners. After working together to restore the city wall, they asked Ezra the scribe to read to them from the scrolls containing God’s laws.

The reading lasted for hours, during which time the people stood and listened intently as the scribe read. They were focused on comprehending what had been recorded in the law of Moses.

The scrolls were written in Hebrew. But most of the Israelites standing in the square had spent their lives in Babylonian captivity, and Aramaic was the language they spoke. Yet they had come together, intent on learning about God’s character and determined to follow His plan. For this reason, the Levites translated “to give the sense so that [the people] understood the reading” (v. 8).

As Ezra praised the Lord, the peoples’ hearts were stirred, and they worshipped. Thanksgiving and humility prepared them to receive from God. They bowed in gratitude for the privilege of hearing the Scriptures.

We need to understand what pleases the Lord so we can obey His plan. That means we must be good listeners who develop greater humility, attentiveness, gratitude, and zeal for Him. As we learn, we should be prepared not only to share the Word with others but also to explain it so they, too, can know God and obey.

Saying Yes to Jesus - Joni and Friends

Joni and Friends Daily Devotional

Saying Yes to Jesus

"Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve."        Joshua 24:15

"For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say 'No' to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age."         Titus 2:11-12

Do you remember when you said "yes" to Jesus? How long ago was it? A few months, maybe years? I said "yes" to the Lord in November 1964 when I was a teenager. But I also said "yes" to Him just the other day.

After a row with Ken, I escaped to the shopping mall with a friend to get my mind off the quarrel. While meandering past a sales rack of blouses, I could no longer contain my self-pity. I began sobbing right next to a couple of mannequins. I couldn't hide my face in a tissue, and my wheelchair was too big for me to escape behind several clothes racks. All I could do was sit there, cry, and stare at the mannequins with the plastic smiles.

While wiping my eyes with the backside of my hand splint, I knew what I had to do. In between sobs, I said out loud what I've said so many times before, "Yes, Jesus, I choose you. I don't choose self-pity or resentment. I say 'yes' to You!"

Even though my face was still wet, my heart filled with peace. Nothing about my husband had changed. Shoppers on the other side of the store still picked through the racks... teenagers still ambled by, giggling, and eating popcorn... but everything was different because of my peaceful heart. Because I said "yes" to Jesus.
________________________________

Dear Lord, I choose You right now. I will be faced with many challenges today, and so in the power of Your Spirit, I say "yes" to following You each moment.

Blessings,

The Question of Inerrancy
Read | Psalm 19:7-8

Pointing out supposed inconsistencies has long been a popular pastime of Bible critics. Tragically, some people in influential positions hold the opinion that portions of Scripture are just plain words.

Of course, such critics can’t agree on what is inaccurate. Some would erase an occasional phrase, while others would toss entire books. Christians, however, needn’t fret about the Bible’s reliability—the God who inspired all of Scripture is also the Sovereign of the universe, who has no trouble preserving His Word and keeping it pure. We can depend on His assurance that “all Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness” (2 Tim. 3:16).

Reading the Bible as a complete document reveals that each part is consistent with every other. God allowed for writers’ differences in viewpoint and background, which at times can give the appearance of discrepancy. But further study always reveals how the various parts fit together. Consider the gospels’ four angles on one story. Writing to Jewish people, Matthew emphasizes history and the fulfillment of messianic prophecy. Meanwhile, John tells a love story about a Savior willing to die for the world. While both authors traveled in Jesus’ company, their perspectives differed. Yet in the fundamentals, they and the other two writers are consistent.

It is essential for believers to trust in the inerrancy of the Bible. A flawed book could only be the product of man’s hand, but Scripture is the authoritative Word of God. His Spirit did the talking, no matter whose hand penned the message.

Another BEAUTIFUL Day!

Early this morning, around 4am, I started getting the tingling from my waist down and a short time later the tingling was from my neck down. :-( It continued for some time.  I just waited for it to stop.  Not sure why this happens???

I am planning on staying around the house again today and taking it easy.  :-)

This morning I was watching Joel Osteen and he was talking about how we are put in situations for a season.  This set back is a stepping stone to something greater.
So trust God has everything under control.
God will take care of me no matter what my circumstances are...Thank You Lord!

I am so thankful for all I can do...

By Charles F. Stanley

As he took a sip of his first beer, the young man thought, “I hope I end up an alcoholic.”

Sounds pretty ridiculous, doesn’t it? No one starts out intending to be an alcoholic or a drug addict, unable to cope with life unless he or she is intoxicated. It just happens—one little step at a time.

Accommodating Sin

Now, you might not be struggling with alcoholism. But maybe there’s another area of your life in which you’ve been less obedient lately. Maybe not a big sin, because we seldom start with serious sins. Instead, compromise happens little by little. The slope to sinful patterns is gradual and smooth.

Consider a woman who purchased a dress to wear one time to a formal dinner. She reasoned that God would want her to look her best. But her finances were tight, so she returned the dress the next day. No problem. No complications. Instead, a lot of compliments. The next time she needed a dress for a special occasion, she didn’t struggle over what to do. Each time got easier. Eventually, it didn’t bother her at all.

Then there was the college student who needed an original idea for his term paper. He realized that if he plagiarizes a little on it, he would sound more intelligent. Writing the paper would take less time too. He was sure God wouldn't want him to hand his paper in late. So he cheated—just a little at first. No hassles. Good grade. The next time it wasn’t such a big deal. Eventually, he even purchased entire papers online to turn in as his own.
None of these people wanted to fall away from God’s best for their lives. In fact, they were trying to seize the things they thought would bring His best. But good people fall hard when they give up what they know is right.

I’m sure if you had asked Solomon at the beginning of his reign if he would ever consider worshipping an idol, he would have passionately replied, “Never!” But his temptation didn’t come at him head on. He never expected his wives to lead him astray. What started as admiring the beauty of foreign women ended up as the worship of false gods (1 Kings 11:5 & 8). We are no more immune to the consequences of compromise than Solomon.

Accountability

What’s the best way to protect yourself against the temptation to compromise? Develop an accountability relationship with someone you respect and trust. As long as Satan can keep you isolated, he has a better chance of getting to your thoughts. Lonely, isolated people are prime targets for his schemes. Busy workaholics are equally vulnerable.

The last thing Satan wants is for us to spend time together, revealing our weak points and praying for each other. That’s why it’s so important for me and you to find someone (of the same gender) we can get real with, drop our pretenses with, and allow God to work through.

Renewing Our Minds

Since compromise can be born in a single thought, we cannot take lightly the command to “renew our minds.” We must make a special effort to protect ourselves from Satan’s attacks. Personal Bible study, corporate worship, or any opportunity you have to fill your mind with the truth is something you must be engaged in regularly. The mind will be either fertile ground for the truth or vulnerable territory for the lies of Satan.

Opening God’s Word once on Sunday morning isn’t enough to equip you to fight Satan’s attacks the rest of the week. But that’s what he wants you to believe. Don’t fall for his lies. Study and equip yourself for the battle of a lifetime.

Journaling

Finally, I suggest you journal about the areas of your life in which you are tempted to compromise. I have a friend who began writing things down on paper many years ago. He found great insight and comfort as he looked back over the years of written pages that chronicled his life’s story. You don’t have to worry about someone thinking you’re weird or you don’t have the right answers. You can write from your heart, turn over your written thoughts to the One who loves you and gave Himself for you, and then profit from what He can teach you.

No formula can guarantee you’ll never fall prey to compromise. But take these simple steps towards safeguarding yourself, and you’ll be one step ahead of Satan’s plan to sabotage your intimate walk with God.

The Bible: God’s Love Letter
Read | John 17:17

God wants a relationship with each of us, which requires that we know Him. In the Scriptures, we find the records of His spoken words, His interventions in history, and His coming to earth in the person of Jesus Christ. From this Book, we derive our knowledge of the Father.

How amazing to consider that the full work was compiled from the pens of 40 different men writing in 3 languages on 3 continents over the course of 1,500 years! Gather a group of historians from just one generation, and you will have neither the consistency nor the unified philosophy and mission found in Scripture.

Each book of the Bible reflects its human author’s personality and background. Moses was the political leader of the Israelites in the desert; Daniel rose to the rank of prime minister while a captive in Babylon; and Paul, the well-educated former Pharisee, dictated letters from prison. Yet every word is true to God’s central theme: His love redeems those who call on His name.

In 2 Peter 1:21, we learn why the Scriptures are cohesive: God Himself spoke through each human writer. In some cases, the Holy Spirit brought to mind essential details (John 14:26), such as the material passed down orally for the Old Testament or the gospels. Then, to enable the writing of prophecies, psalms, and letters, God’s Spirit revealed important truths (16:15).

The heavenly Father loves you and wants you to spend eternity with Him. For this reason, He used men from all walks of life to record His gospel message. Read His invitation for yourself.

Love Has to Grow - Joni and Friends

Joni and Friends Daily Devotional

Love Has to Grow
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."        1 Corinthians 13:4, 6-7

Love must grow. It can't stand still, and it certainly cannot go backward. Love must flourish or else it withers and dies. In fact, growth in a relationship is very much like growth in a tree or flower. If a flower doesn't bloom, if a tree doesn't sprout leaves, it signals a problem.

Our love for the Lord Jesus is also a living thing. We are intimately united with Him in His body. Remember, love between you and your Lord, like anything that lives, must grow. Just think, 1 Corinthians 13 is how God feels about you!
__________________________________

We can always come up with good excuses as to why our relationships do not progress and increase in love. But instead of blaming others, ask yourself a couple of direct questions about love. Do I protect my loved one's reputation? Are my expectations unrealistic? Do I pray committedly? Does my love cover a multitude of the other's sins? Do I keep Christ at the center of our relationship?

Lord, help me to be patient and kind toward others. Help me not to envy those who seem to be enjoying tremendous progress and increase in their marriages. Help me not to boast when I'm right, or be proud when others are wrong. Help me not to be rude to my husband... wife... or friend. I don't want my love to be self-seeking, or easily angered. And, Lord, convict me if I start keeping a record of wrongs, for I desire that my love will always rejoice with the truth. Help me to have faith, hope, and love ever increasing, ever growing.

Blessings,
