Look Again

Look Again

“ ‘Go and look toward the sea,’ he told his servant. And he went up and looked. ‘There is nothing there,’ he said. Seven times Elijah said, ‘Go back.’ The seventh time the servant reported, ‘A cloud as small as a man’s hand is rising from the sea...’ ” (1 Kings 18:43–44, NIV)

The Bible says that after the prophet Elijah prayed and asked God to end the drought, he said to the people, “I can hear the sound of an abundance of rain.”

He was saying in effect, “There is a yes from God in our future!”

Elijah told his assistant to go look on the other side of the mountain to see if there was any sign of rain. When the assistant came back, he said, “No, Elijah. There’s not a cloud in the sky. It’s perfectly clear.” Elijah didn’t get discouraged and think, “What are we going to do now? I might as well quit this prophet business.” No, he simply said, “Go back and look again.”

This happened six different times, but Elijah kept saying, “Go look again.” On the seventh time, the servant came back and said, “Elijah, I saw a small cloud in the sky. It isn’t much, just the size of a man’s hand.” Elijah’s answer was basically, “You’d better get your umbrella. Rain is coming!”

Friend, like Elijah, maybe you are believing for something, and you aren’t seeing anything happen. Don’t give up, go look again! If God has promised it, He will do it. It won’t be long until you see His showers of blessing pouring down on every area of your life!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, thank You for Your faithfulness. I believe that You are working behind the scenes even when I can’t see it. I choose to keep believing. I choose to look again until I see every promise fulfilled in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Highs -n- Lows Living with the Disease

Another Beautiful Day!  Paul was up a lot last night coughing :-(  I'm hoping the medicine he took in the middle of the night will kick in soon so he can get some more sleep.  He hasn't been sleeping the last couple of nights because of the cold/flu...

Yesterday, we went to the Gem show for a few hours.  We are planning on going back again today for a few hours...I left the wholesale tag at home yesterday. :-(

We met an older gentleman from Colorado, he has a lot of unique items that he would sell Paul, items Paul won't find at the show...  He's a lot like Paul, collected the items for himself. His wife was flying in last night if the weather allowed her to...
He gave us his contact information so we can meet up with him and his wife later if Paul wants to see his items. :-)

We also met someone from Florida that invited us to come see her sometime...

Today I'll be running mom to Christopher & Banks so she can use her gift cards and coupon, the coupon expires today...

I didn't get a nap in yesterday, like I was hoping, but went to bed at 8/8:30 instead.Woke up a lot with Paul... Hopefully we can get over this stuff soon...

So thankful for all I can do...

The Blessings of God
Read | Ephesians 1:3-14

Everyone experiences difficulty in life. During painful times, we may feel as though God is not blessing us. But even then, we are experiencing many of His amazing gifts, despite the fact that they might be escaping our notice.

Below are several examples of blessings we can enjoy on bright or dark days:

• We are assured that our almighty God chose us before the foundation of the world (v. 4). He predestined us to be adopted as His children (v. 5). We can feel special and wanted because the Sovereign of the universe selected us.

• Jesus provided our salvation through His death and resurrection (v. 7). He redeemed us from sin that causes separation from God and ultimately leads to death. As a result, we receive a brand-new nature and daily forgiveness of iniquities (2 Cor. 5:17; 1 John 1:9).

• The Holy Spirit resides within us. He guides, warns, and fills us so we always have access to counsel or comfort. And because He also seals us, our eternity is secure (Eph. 1: 13).

• Our Father prepares an inheritance for us that is imperishable (1 Peter 1:4). We may experience momentary troubles, but we can look forward to living eternally in God’s presence, where there is joy and no suffering.

In painful situations, you might be tempted to conclude that the Lord’s hand isn’t resting on your life. But believers have wonderful spiritual blessings at all times. Without the four permanent gifts listed above, fear and emptiness would be overwhelming. Ponder these benefits, and express gratitude, even in difficulty.

Looking forward to another great day....

Highs -n- Lows Living with the Disease

Another Beautiful Day!  I am so thankful for a retreat from the cold weather back in MN.   This year everywhere seems to be getting hit with the colder weather, freezing rain and/or snow...

Paul and I are taking our yearly trip to visit Tim and Connie and to go to the the Gem, Mineral and Bead show in Tucson. Something both Paul and I enjoy doing...
We bring my mom with so see can visit also.

As I am sitting here this morning, the AZ temperature is at 47 degrees with highs today hitting 80 degrees. :-). My kind of weather...

I just received yet another winter weather advisory for MN on my phone with snowfall from 4 to 6 inches possible today. :-(  Yuck

Yesterday, I brought my mom, grandma Faye, to get her hair done and while she got her hair done I went for a manicure. While I was sitting there visiting with this person our convention went to keeping our thought positive...she told me about her uncle, he got lung cancer and would continue to tell everyone he was going to die...three months later he died.  Research shows that if you keep a positive attitude, it helps you heal faster and it keep your body and mind stronger.

Oh, how I know the difference it makes to keep that positive attitude...I continue to look up for my help also...ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE FOR THOSE THAT TRUST GOD

This morning I was up at 1:00am with my ongoing cough.  I decided to come out to the living room to sleep.  I slept for a couple more hours.  I will try to lay back down this afternoon after we get back from the Gem show...

Paul has been coughing a lot also.  I think he got it back from me.  He had one earlier but never completely got rid of it.
I picked up a cold or cough right before we left to come out here so it's been hanging on for awhile.  Taking the prednisone doesn't help.  I going to pick up some different cold medication today to try to stop this cough... Ugh

I received a newsletter from the Mysitis Foundation and saw they had some business sized cards that I can give out to those that don't understand what it is I have...the cards are for 3 different forms of Mysitis and DM is one of them...

I am so thankful for all I can do...

When Fear Grips Us
Read | Isaiah 41:10

All throughout the Scriptures, the Lord encourages us not to be afraid or anxious. As His children, we have no basis for fear. Of course, there are reasons for us to be extremely cautious about what we do and where we go, but God’s people are not to live in a state of anxiety.

If you think about it, you can identify at least six anxieties that are basic to all mankind. They are the fear of criticism, illness, old age, death, poverty, and losing a loved one. Although these are universal worries, they are in reality symptoms of something deep inside that feeds our fears.

Some of the root causes are:

A basic sense of inadequacy. Because of distorted thinking, we frequently feel incompetent to tackle certain challenges or tasks that should be possible for us to accomplish.

The tendency to set unrealistic standards for ourselves. We can go through life trying to measure up to lofty expectations that are self-imposed rather than goals set by God.

An innate sense of unworthiness. It’s amazing how many people will not succeed in life because they just don’t feel they deserve it.

In the midst of our fears and anxieties, we need to remember God’s promise in today’s passage. He reassures us, “Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” It is important that we look up at Him and not around at our circumstances.

Looking forward to another great day...

Highs -n- Lows Living with the Disease

Another Beautiful Day!
I went to get a shorter hair cut yesterday.  A style that won't look like hat hair when I take off my hat. :-( I found some different hair covering at the cancer center but I haven't decided whether to buy them yet.  The prices run from $13.00 to $28.00 a piece. ??? Still trying to decide if I should spend the money on them or not...I'll probably regret it if I don't pick a couple up...

I went to bed at 9:00pm, woke up at 4:00am and went out to the living room.  Fell back to sleep and woke up again at around 6:30am...this seems to be the routine.

Today, they are having storage shed actions...thought about going to see what the are like.  My dad used to go to them.
There are in 5 different locations.  Starting at one, then moving to the next.  Sounds like it would be interesting.  We watch the storage wars on TV. :-)

So thankful for all I can do...

Seeking the Lord
Read | Hosea 10:12

We all spend some time seeking the Lord, but to be truly successful at it, we must learn to adjust our focus. The reason focus is important is that what we behold, we become. If we fix our attention on the sensual and materialistic, it won’t be long before we ourselves start leaning in that direction. I challenge you not to sit in front of the television, or partake of other forms of entertainment that allow unhealthy ideas into your mind night after night. While you might think it has no influence, it actually has a subtle but terrible gripping effect on you.

If, on the other hand, you focus your love and attention on Jesus, you will become like Him. As believers, we can focus on Him when we pray, when we study the Scriptures, and when we meditate on God’s truths. But we must go deeper, to the point that we are listening and sharing our hearts with Him. If we are open and transparent before Him, He will speak and pour Himself into us, like a spiritual version of osmosis.

When we learn to do this, we will find that our hunger and thirst for everything else begins to diminish. It’s not that our desires will disappear; they instead become redirected. You will discover you have a growing hunger for God and a longing to know Him in a deep, personal way. And you will notice your joy bubbling up and overflowing so that it cannot be stopped or stifled. Why? Because once you have begun to seek the Lord, you will recognize Him as your all in all.

Looking forward to another great day...

Worry - Joni and Friends

Joni and Friends Daily Devotional

Worry

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."                             Matthew 6:25-28, 31, 33-34

Try this: Go back over these verses and count how many times the Lord uses the word "worry." You'll discover in the span of these few short verses that the Lord Jesus repeats six times, "Do not worry." Talk about driving home a point!

The Lord was wise in repeating His warning so many times. He knows the devastating effects of worrying, how it can corrode your faith like acid. Worry robs you of joy, it steals your hope.
______________________________________

What is worrying you today? A deadline or a diet? A car payment or a gloomy medical report? Repeat one more time your reading of Matthew 6:25-34 and personalize it by putting your name after each time the Lord commands (notice, it's not a suggestion): "Do not worry."

Lord, I admit that I'm so prone to worrying about things that happen in my life. Help me today to trust You. Receive glory as I turn from my anxiety and turn to You. Thank You that Jesus has given me this solemn warning not to worry.

Blessings,

Spiritual Discouragement
Read | Psalm 34:1-8

Discouragement can result from different scenarios, but Satan is the instigator. He will do anything he can to dishearten us and keep our focus on negative things instead of on God.

A subtle form of spiritual discouragement is the idea that we cannot please God. This is a trap of the Devil, and too many Christians are ensnared by it. If we were to write down everything we thought we must do to please God, how long would that list be before it was complete? We would assume we should read the Bible more, pray more, give more, and witness more. We could probably fill up both sides of the paper. Then we would look at our list and realize it’s impossible to accomplish all of it. That’s the trap. What pleases the Lord is our obedience, not our adherence to a long checklist of duties.

Unanswered prayer is another source of discouragement. When we present a request to the Lord, He does not necessarily answer in the manner or timing that would be our preference. When that is the case, we will far too often allow discouragement to creep in, and from there, we might decide to give up on prayer.

Yesterday we saw that focusing on the Lord is essential for breaking the chains of discouragement. When you turn to God, it is also helpful to pray three things aloud. First, thank Him for being with you while you feel disheartened. Second, admit He is in control of your life. And third, acknowledge that He is good and will ultimately work the circumstances for your benefit.

Looking forward to another great day...

Talk Yourself into it

“You will also decree a thing, and it will be established for you; and light will shine on your ways.”
(Job 22:28, NASB)

In Genesis 17, when Sarah first heard the news that she was going to have a baby, the scripture says it was so far out she began to laugh. She was in her 90’s, so it seemed impossible from every angle. I can hear her saying, “Abraham, a baby? Are you kidding? I’ve gone through the change of life. That defies the laws of nature.” She was saying, “I’m at a disadvantage. I don’t have what it takes,” belittling herself, discounting herself. She was burying the promise deep within her.

Friend, when you think about it, it’s just as easy to talk yourself into something as it is to talk yourself out of it. Instead of thinking of all the reasons why you can’t get well, why you can’t accomplish a dream, why your marriage is not going to last and talking yourself out of it, start talking yourself into it! “I can do all things through Christ. God is making a way even though I don’t see a way. I’m anointed, equipped, talented, more than a conqueror.”

The more you speak God’s Word, the more you believe it. When you believe God’s Word, it comes to pass in your life. Start today by declaring His promises. Feed your faith and move forward into the victory and blessing He has in store for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, thank You for Your faithfulness in my life. I choose to believe Your promises and blessings. I choose to declare Your truth and talk myself into believing You instead of doubting in Jesus’ name. Amen.

I have been exposing myself to uv and florescent lights more...I'm checking to see if the medication I'm on is working...allowing me to get out more without causing any problems.  Usually if I'm exposed myself to the uv and florescent lights I swell up and hurt.  I don't want to have to be cooped up all the time.

I'm so thankful for all I can do...

The Landmine of Discouragement
Read | Psalm 42:5-8

There are people who suffer the effects of discouragement for years. They don’t know how to repair the damage caused by this devastating landmine. How does this loss of confidence and optimism originate?

Disappointment is our emotional response to a failed expectation. When we refuse to recognize and deal with the failure, that negative reaction can fester—then we can slip into discouragement. Disappointments are inevitable, but believers don’t have to be in bondage to discouragement.

We all periodically face difficulties that make us feel weak. Discouragement, however, like a drive through a dark tunnel, should be temporary: after a short while, we should come out on the other side. I have experienced situations in which I was very discouraged for a season. On occasion, I have had to get on my knees during the night to cry out to God for encouragement. After asking Him for a change in attitude and help in laying down my burden, I have been able to get back to sleep.

In order to gain victory, we must first look within ourselves. We need to admit our specific discouragement as well as the unresolved conflicts in our heart. Identifying the root cause of our disheartened feelings allows us to work through them. Most importantly, we must turn to God. As long as we are talking about our hurt, suffering, embarrassment, or shattered dreams, we will wallow in despair. But the moment we lift our heads and say “Father,” we take our first step out of discouragement.

Looking forward to another great day...

Conquering Your Fears
By Dr. Charles Stanley

Would you consider yourself a free person? More than likely, you would. But perhaps somewhere in the back of your mind, you wonder, Am I truly free?

We live in a country that has a rich heritage—one that is steeped in freedom and liberty. But many people are not living free lives. They are bound by invisible chains that prevent them from reaching their full potential. These shackles are made up of links that have been cast and shaped in the emotional fires of fear.

Once this deadly emotion captures a person’s heart, breaking its bond is difficult—but it can be done. Though fear’s grasp is strong, it is not greater than the power of Jesus Christ. The Savior told His disciples, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free” (John 8:31-32).

How do we break free from the bondage of fear? There is only one way, and that is through faith in Christ. But before we can do this, we must come to a point where we admit that we are battling a deadly foe and need God’s help.

I’m not fearful!

The young boy leveled his eyes at his mother’s gaze and said, “I’m not afraid. I want to camp outside with my friends!” His mother softened as she thought through the situation. He would be in the fenced-in backyard, within range of her hearing his every move, and more than
likely, she would be awake—watching to make sure he and his friends were safe. And if they needed anything, they could easily come inside the house.

This is exactly what happened. Somewhere around 2 am, she heard the backdoor open and close. She got up, grabbed her robe, and hurried downstairs to check on her son. As she flipped the lights on in the kitchen, she was greeted by the sight of her boy and two of his best friends—sleeping bags in hand along with a crumbled bag of chocolate chip cookies. Sensing their embarrassment, she asked, “Son, what happened?”

“There’s something out there,” her son replied. “I don’t know what it is, but it snarled at us. We could hear it in the yard. Maybe it was a big dog, a wild fox, or even a large bear!” Trying not to smile at the thought of their imagined foes, she said, “Why don’t you just sleep in the den and go back out to the tent in the morning? I’ll make pancakes for you when you wake up.” The mood of the group immediately brightened. She didn’t bother to mention the fact that the chances of meeting up with a fox or a bear were extremely low, especially since they lived in a densely populated city.

Fear attacks without warning. It tempts us to believe things that will not or cannot happen, and often leaves us feeling helpless and without hope. Each day, we are bombarded with words and messages that have the ability to stir thoughts of fear within us. Turn on the news, and more than likely you will hear a dismal rundown on the economy and many other items that strike notes of panic in your heart.

News organizations often broadcast with the goal of creating an emotional reaction from those who watch, listen, and visit their Web sites. To increase their audience, they target people with the messages that produce the greatest response. Therefore, if the fire of fear works, the flame is turned up.

From a worldly perspective, the future may look pretty bleak, especially if you decide to calculate your situation apart from faith in Jesus Christ. The fact is, if you do this, fear will reach out and grab your heart, telling you that the worst will happen and it will be beyond anything you can imagine. Don’t buy into the Enemy’s lies. The nightly news cannot give you a complete picture of reality—certainly not from a heavenly standpoint. And remember, nothing the Devil whispers to you is based on the truth of God’s Word (John 8:44). While we are facing very serious times in our nation’s history, we are not alone. God is with us, and He is never out of control.

The apostle Paul discovered this in a fresh way during a very difficult time in his ministry. Somewhere near the end of his second missionary journey, he was staying in the city of Corinth. He had left Athens to go to Macedonia, but something happened that almost caused him to stumble in his faith. The Jews resisted his teaching to a point where they “blasphemed.” Paul was fed up with their stiff-necked ways. He declared that he would no longer go to the Jews first, but instead would preach God’s message to the Gentiles (Acts 18:5-6).

At every turn, Paul faced opposition from the Jewish leaders. On several occasions, his very life had been threatened. He was tired and likely felt alone and worn thin emotionally—vulnerable to the destruction of fear. One night as he drifted off to sleep, God’s Spirit spoke to him, saying, “Do not be afraid any longer, but go on speaking and do not be silent; for I am with you, and no man will attack you in order to harm you, for I have many people in this city” (Acts 18:9-10).

There we have it: one of the greatest apostles who ever lived, battling fear. But the verses that follow do not mention this again. Why? Paul changed his focus. He came face-to-face with the reality of his fear and chose to abandon it. Was this something he could do on his own? Absolutely not. There was no way he could move past the anxiety he felt without the assurance found in Jesus Christ. Once God’s Spirit spoke to his heart, the issue was settled, and Paul knew there was only one thing for him to do: complete the work God had given him.

The Enemy uses many things in an effort to distract us and prevent us from reaching our full potential—and fear is one of his choice weapons. He usually follows it with words of discouragement and accusation: “You can’t do that”; “You haven’t been trained”; “What would people think if you fail?” And that was his strategy in Corinth: Satan knew he would face ultimate defeat if Paul succeeded, so he tried to keep the apostle fearful. The Lord’s faithful promise, delivered at just the right moment, was all the encouragement Paul needed to continue preaching the truth of the gospel.

The right steps to overcoming fear

If you are going to overcome fear, the first step is to acknowledge and admit your anxiety. Confess, “Lord, I feel fearful, and I don’t know what to do. Please show me how to go forward from this point.” Next, ask God to enable you to conquer your fear. The more you understand your relationship with God, the more intimately you will relate to Him. Your level of trust will increase, and you will begin to notice the many ways He is at work in your life and circumstances.

Shortly before his death, Paul wrote an interesting word of instruction to Timothy. He reminded his young protégé, “God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power and love and discipline” (2 Tim. 1:7). Fear doesn’t fit who we are as believers. It usually surfaces when we have the wrong response to disappointment and trial. God wants you to be victorious, not harassed or tormented by anxiety.

Let God remove fear from your life. He may choose to do this by placing you in a frightening situation where you feel out of control. But you do not have to worry, because the One who has promised never to let you go is holding your life in His omnipotent hand.

After you have given your worries to the Lord, meditate on His Word. David understood the power that was available to him through God’s personal promises. He wrote, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life; whom shall I dread? . . . My adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell. Though a host encamp against me, my heart will not fear” (Ps. 27:1-3).

If you want to keep your confidence strong, study the Bible, apply God’s principles to your life, and walk with Him each day by faith. When you hide His Word in your heart, you will have the light of His truth to guide you—not only for your present circumstances, but also for eternity.

Looking forward to another great day....

Another Beautiful Morning.
I've been up off and on all night with this coughing and blowing nose. So stuffed up...
I have rumbling in my chest and when I breathe it crackles and gurgles...so it's in my chest too :-(
I was thinking before we left, on our trip, that if I should get sick at least the Muscular Dystrophy headquarters and clinic is right here in town...I can get help if I am sick...it's a good feeling.

Today, we will take it easy...it's so relaxing here.  Temperatures are in the 60's and 70's...

So thankful for all I can do...

The Moments That Sustain Us
Read | Joshua 1:8

Meditation is a vital part of a healthy, growing relationship with God. It is, however, left out of many believers’ lives. So let’s start with basics and ask the key question, How do we meditate?

First, we must devote ourselves to the reading of God’s Word. If we want to hear His message, then we must dig deep into Scripture. This is no mere book; rather, it is the very message of God to His people. We have Scripture in order to know the Lord better. As faithful stewards of this wonderful gift, we must make it an integral part of our lives.

Second, we must learn to pray God’s Word back to Him. When we read a Bible passage, we should lift that Word back up to heaven as a prayer. We affirm the message of Scripture by showing our heavenly Father we are in agreement with what He has said.

Third, we must apply the Word. The Bible is not here for simple information; instead, it was given for obedience. If we do not allow the Word of God to change our life, then are we really placing much value on it?

Fourth, we must submit to God’s will. As we spend time actively listening to the Lord, He will share His plans for our life. As we apply what we have heard, meditation will become more and more instinctive for us. Then, we will find that we hear His voice regularly.
God has a special message for you. It’s imperative that you take the time to hear what your heavenly Father is saying. And when you do, you’ll enjoy the richness of your relationship with Him.

Looking forward to another great day...

Victory in the Battles of Life
Read | 1 Samuel 17:32-50

Have you ever failed at something simply because you did not plan it all the way through? Sadly, this is all too common among believers and non-believers alike.

If we want to achieve victory in our pursuits, we must be willing to plan. It’s not always enough to see a matter through to completion; we must also demonstrate the wisdom to consider all steps leading up to the challenge and all potential results that might follow. Then we’ll have a complete view and will begin to see the matter from the perspective of our heavenly Father.

When David confronted the Philistine warrior Goliath, he knew that he was entering into much more than simply a wartime dispute. He was keenly aware of the nature of the conflict—that is, God’s reputation was at stake because all the other nations would be watching to see what happened. Failure at this important juncture would have shown the world that Israel’s God was not all that powerful.

Not only did David understand the nature of the conflict; he walked into battle knowing the outcome. He’d been called to defeat Goliath and provide an unshakable testimony to the Almighty’s power. And he was fully confident that God would enable him to do just that.

If your pursuits keep falling short, ask yourself, Am I looking at the whole issue, or have I lost perspective? If your point of view is too limited, commit the matter to the Lord and allow Him to show you what He is able to do through your efforts.

Highs -n- Lows Living with the Disease

Another beautiful day!  Soooo very cold again outside.  Schools started closing and delaying 2 hours already last night.  It sounds like Monday and Tuesday are supposed to be the same...very cold :-(

Gracie and I went to Faribault yesterday to visit grandma Gloria and grandma Faye. They were both having a good day. :-) The roads were starting to get bad coming home. Blowing snow...

I have a bad cold/flu that started a few day ago...I'm having trouble breathing. So stuffed up...even when I blow my nose, I'm stuffed up. I hope it doesn't last too much longer...

When we fly to Arizona I was planning on wearing a mask on the plane to protect myself from catching anything but now it will be to protect others from getting what I have.

Last night I had another flare :-(  it's so hard walking when I'm in so much pain...
So I took my meds and went to bed.  I slept until around 4:30...I couldn't breathe anymore so I got up to blow my nose and I'm still stuffed up... :-(

I am ready for the warmer weather...temperatures have been running 60's/70's as a high and 40's for their low. I can handle those temperatures.

Hopefully when we return it will feel like spring....only dreaming.  NOT :-). I'm praying really hard for nicer weather and warmer temps...

It will be so nice to see Tim and Connie. :-) I brought mom to my house yesterday to make our way to the cities easier...so tonight we stay in a hotel and the hotel van will shuttle us over to the airport in the morning.  Flight leaves at around 9:30am, I didn't want to mess with the traffic   It will so much easier on all of us...I want to make it as stress free as possible. :-)

So thankful for all I can do....

You have many treasures buried deep inside of you. Gifts, talents, abilities that you don’t even know about yet. But as a believer in Jesus, the greatest treasure within you is the Spirit of God. You carry the treasure of God in an earthen vessel!

He’s also deposited treasures on the inside of you that are tied to your purpose. By His Spirit, you will discover that God has fully equipped you for everything you need in this life. We have to draw out those treasures inside of us by what we speak and what we believe. We stir up the gifts by praying in the Spirit.

Don’t let those treasures lie dormant. Seek God and follow His leading. Dig deep, stir it up and move forward in the destiny God has in store for you!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, thank You for choosing to live inside of me. Show me the treasures You have deposited within me so that I can fulfill Your purposes for me all the days of my life in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Our God Is Able
Read | Jude 1:24-25

People fail. We do not like this reality, but there are times when, no matter how hard we try or how talented we may be, we simply do not succeed or reach our goal.

How are we to succeed at a given task, especially in situations when the odds are against us? For believers in Christ Jesus, the answer is to live out a radical faith in the knowledge that our God is willing and able to overcome our weaknesses.

Sarah laughed when she overheard the Lord prophesy that she would bear a son. “Is anything too difficult for the Lord?” He asked (Gen. 18:14). Within a year, that question was answered when the elderly woman gave birth to baby Isaac. She saw that God was able to accomplish the unimaginable.

When God sent Moses to Pharaoh to demand the release of the Hebrew slaves, Moses was scared. “Who am I,” he asked, “that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the Sons of Israel out of Egypt?” (Ex. 3:11). God replied with assurance that He would pave the way for the Hebrews’ release, which He did in a miraculous way. Truly, Moses saw that God was more than able.

On our own, we can accomplish nothing (John 15:5). However, when we operate within the will of God, we have access to a limitless power source that far exceeds our comprehension (1 Chron. 29:12). If you are overcome by the burdens of the world, it is time to throw yourself into the arms of the only one who can carry your heavy load (Matt. 11:28-30). Trust in Him and learn for yourself that God is able.

Highs -n- Lows Living with the Disease

Another beautiful day with temps back down below zero.  Brrr

I've tried cutting back on pain medicine but I'm finding out I may have to add them back in sometimes...
Yesterday, I wasn't feeling well, I had swelling and alot of pain.  So, I ended up having to take some.
I'll still cut back but if I have a bad flare the pain medicine will be available for me to use.

This morning I'm going to pick up Gracie and take her over to see Grandma Faye and Grandma Gloria.
We are eating lunch with grandma Faye and having a treat with grandma Gloria.
Grandma Faye will be riding back home with us and staying overnight.  She's joining us on the trip to AZ
Christine starts back to work in March, so I will start babysitting Gracie.
I plan on doing the same as I did with Kaylee..visit every week so the grandmas can watch her grow up too.

I'm so thankful for all I can do...

Reinforcing Our Faith
Read | Jude 1:20-23

Even though we have already examined some ways in which we can identify false teachers, it is impossible for us to avoid this destructive influence completely. Therefore, it is critical that we reinforce our faith so we’ll be able to stand firm against the subversive pull of the world. But how can we build a stronger faith?

First, we must saturate our minds with the holy, unchanging Word of God. Then the Holy Spirit will continually refresh our minds and bring new insights as we develop Christian maturity.

Second, we must commit to pray in the Holy Spirit (Eph. 6:18). We can trust the Spirit to guide us in our prayers, leading us with regard to what, when, and how to pray.

Third, we must keep ourselves in the love of God. Of course, we can never fall beyond the scope of divine love, but we shouldn’t ever take the Lord’s amazing grace for granted. With that in mind, we need to guard our closeness with Him, ensuring that we spend uninterrupted time in His presence.

Fourth, we must await the Lord’s return eagerly. From the Christian perspective, Jesus’ second coming is the most anticipated event in history, and we need to keep our eyes on this goal. The thought that Christ could return at any moment is a purifying and protective realization for the believer (1 John 3:2-3).

There’s no “magic formula” for spiritual growth, but these simple steps, laid out in verses 20-23 of Jude, can serve as a guide while we strive to protect our faith from the snares of the world.

Looking forward to another great day...

Highs -n- Lows Living with the Disease

Another Beautiful Morning!  Yesterday I met with my health coach and will be meeting with her again in February...I have many things to work on.  I have homework before our next meeting.  I'm ready for some changes :-)

I am starting the gentle yoga program and will continue to make changes to my diet. I am also going to continue to use my glider...

I think of If I continue to watch what I eat my swelling and pain will decrease.  I'm hoping anyway.  I'll still have to limit my exposure to light or I will swell.

Yesterday, my neuropathy seemed to be decreasing so I started cutting back on the pain medications to see what I'm able to tolerate. :-) I'm tired of taking pills...

I came down with a cold. :-( Runny nose, scratchy & clearing of the throat and a cough...last thing I want before we leave for AZ. :-(

Sue and the Drs helping her need our prayers...

Last night Sue was in congestive heart failure. They are admitting her to UMC. They were talking about draining her kidneys by inserting a tube into kidney through surgery. If they can it should stop the heart and breathing problem. Her kidneys are shutting down. If they do they will put her on dialysis.  please pray...

I'm so thankful for all I can do....

You Have What You Need

“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life...”
(2 Peter 1:3, NIV)

TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria

It’s easy to get stuck in life thinking you’ve reached your limits. But, God wouldn’t have given you a dream without giving you the ability to accomplish it. You have everything you need. The problem many times is that it’s buried inside. It’s hidden treasure. You have gifts and talents that you’ve not yet tapped. There is potential that is waiting to be released. When God laid out the plan for your life, He deposited in you the skill, the wisdom, the creativity; everything you need to fulfill your destiny. Now here’s the key. It’s not what you have in you that matters; it’s what you get out. If you’re going to reach your highest potential, you have to tap in to that hidden treasure.

Now the challenge is, “don’t die with the treasure still on the inside.” You have something to offer this world that nobody else can offer. You are unique, one of a kind. You are anointed to be you. Be confident in who God made you to be, knowing that you’ve got what it takes to step in to the fullness of your destiny.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father, thank You for giving me everything I need to fulfill the dreams You’ve placed in my heart. I choose to stay focused and press forward into the good things You have me in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Highs -n- Lows Living with the Disease

Another Beautiful Morning!  I went to bed around 9:30pm last night and woke up this morning at 5:30am, I got up took my medication but I'm still feeling tired.
Kaylee stayed last night but she's still sleeping...she is sleeping really good.

I been feeling really fatigued lately, the last few days.  I wonder if it's the new medicine I just restarted?  I was hoping this new medication would work out good for me so I didn't have to take the infusions.

We are getting ready for a trip to AZ.  Paul and I look forward to it every year.  We visit my brother and his wife and we go to the gem show.  Paul has started a pretty good collection of fossils and other neat rocks.  I go for beads to make jewelry.  You can get a good deal on a lot of things...

I got a call yesterday from AZ, my brother, Tim.  He was touching base with me and wanted to let us know that a friend, his renter, is not doing well, she's dying and he didn't want us to walk into it without getting us ready.  She has a rare form of breast cancer.  So sad :-(  Connie's mom died alittle over a year ago.  Going to AZ last year was so different without Sue, Connie's mom.  Now this... :-(
When you see all this take place...it reminds you of how important it is to enjoy today, not to take anything for granted or anyone.  Life is way too short...

I appreciate my family and friends...

Idols in the Life of the Believer
Read | Mark 11:24-25

Have you noticed that in recent history, the word “idol” has been completely disassociated from the word “idolatry”? In church circles, we recoil at the mention of idolatry, as it brings to mind images of golden calves and other things once worshiped by heathens. We know these things are wrong, because our worship should be directed to God alone. But do we feel the same about “idols”?

Today’s culture enjoys its own idols. We have music stars, beauty queens, pop-culture icons, and sports heroes all fighting for our interest. And, in return for their hard work, we give them just what they want: our focus and attention.

We sit for hours in front of the TV, follow fashion trends of top celebrities, and read, watch, or listen to anything that features our favorite public figures. The 1950s gave our society a term that has since characterized our culture-driven mindset: the “teen idol.”

We must be reminded what an idol is. It’s not simply some image of a false god to whom we bow down in worship. Instead, an idol is anything that we value more than the Lord. This could be movie stars, prized possessions, or even our loved ones.

The nature of idolatry is distraction. When something pulls our eyes away from God, we begin to spiral out of control. Bring your distractions to the Lord, asking forgiveness for the times you’ve allowed other people or things to take precedence in your life. Pray for the wisdom to enjoy His blessings without being blinded by temptations that pull you from communion with Him.

Looking forward to another great day....

Highs -n- Lows Living with the Disease

Another Beautiful Day!
I woke up to get ready this morning and as I started putting on my makeup I noticed sores starting to pop up on my face again.??? Where are these coming from and why am I getting them?
Also, as I'm sitting here writing I continuously have to rub my eyes to clear away the matter...I have mattery eyes this morning. I'm sure it's from my swelling :-(

For the last four to five days this week I was waiting to have another bm to see if it continues to be black and finally after four days I was able to check and it isn't black anymore. So thankful
The things we can get excited about are the things that come so natural for others.  My medication causes me to continue to be constipated.  No Fun

Well, I'm looking forward to Kaylee staying overnight tonight.  I wish Nolan and Grant were closer so they could come and stay too.  Maybe when they get alittle older we could take them for a week or two during the summer...they grow so fast.

I'm so thankful for all I can do. .

From Rejection to Rejoicing
By In Touch Ministries Staff

Rejection came my way early in life. Socially, I was a failure in elementary school. Day after day in the cafeteria, no one talked to me. When I finished my lunch, I would plug my ears and close my eyes to shut out the children who ignored me. And at recess, kids mocked my mismatched clothes, unkempt hair, and my “really religious” family. My poor interpersonal skills only made matters worse. By the time we returned to our classroom, my face was usually blotchy from crying. I felt terribly alone. Surely no one else knew such confusion, isolation and loneliness!

The years since have taught me differently. Most people have felt excluded at one time or another. Like me, some are written off for being unusual. Others are overlooked because they lack certain abilities, physical attractiveness or social skills. And believers are persecuted for trying to live out their faith in a hostile world.

How does God expect us to handle rejection? Is it possible to experience that pain and yet maintain our confidence and peace? I believe the answer is found in examining the life of Christ.

Even nonbelievers typically recognize the important role Jesus played in history. Yet to many of His contemporaries, He was just a carpenter’s son from the country town of Galilee. Like all young men from good Jewish families, Jesus had been schooled in the faith as a boy. However, He hadn’t been groomed to be a rabbi, so in human terms, He didn’t have the most prestigious religious education. Although some saw His miracles and declared Him a prophet, others dismissed Christ’s teachings as uneducated or heretical. Who was he—a man—to claim to be God?  they thought.

That didn’t stop Jesus from challenging the religious leaders and their man-made traditions. He cleverly disarmed their arguments against His teaching. Jesus attacked the profitable animal-selling business they had set up in the temple. He stood silently and peacefully while He was accused and sentenced to crucifixion.

Why was our Savior able to display such confidence and inner strength? I believe it’s because He never forgot who He was—God Himself. Jesus never forgot where He was headed—back to heaven. Our Lord never forgot whom He was aiming to please—His heavenly Father, not people here on earth.

But Jesus is more than a man; He’s one in essence with God Himself. Is it reasonable for us, as mere humans, to find our security in the Creator’s opinion of us as Christ did? Yes, although we will do so imperfectly. Our Helper, the Holy Spirit, can give us the power to look past the disapproval of man and see the affirmation of our heavenly Father. He teaches us to find our identity as children of God when others leave us feeling small and insignificant. The Spirit reminds us that in light of eternity, we are here for only a short time.

In the grand design of eternity, it won’t matter if people excluded us from their clique, disapproved of us, or mocked us for believing in an invisible God. What will matter is whether or not we lived obediently. When rejection feels more tangible than the affirmation of our loving, powerful God, we must choose to focus on what our Creator says about our worth.

The truth is, if you have accepted Christ’s death as payment for your sin and yielded your life to His leadership, you are fully accepted by God. You are 100 percent pleasing to Him. Even if people don’t seek your friendship, the Lord Himself awaits one-on-one time with you. Even if you remain single or your marriage grows stagnant, you are beloved by God. Even if no one else sees you as significant, He calls you part of “a royal priesthood. ” (See Rom. 10:9-10; Col. 1:22; 2 Thess. 2:13; Heb. 13:5; 1 Peter 2:9.)

In the years since elementary school, I’ve come a long way in knowing how to relate to people. Yet, I still get left out or overlooked occasionally. Even now, rejection can reduce me to tears, prompt me to question my self-worth and abilities, and hinder me from pursuing certain friendships.

But it also causes me to seek the face of the Lord with more fervor. Sooner or later, I remind myself that I am God’s precious daughter. When I draw near to Him, even in the midst of a busy day, I sense His comforting presence. Others may belittle or ignore me, but nothing that I do for the Lord goes unnoticed in heaven. No matter how unloved I may feel, my Savior never abandons me.

You, too, hold a special place in God’s heart. So don’t let rejection dictate how you feel about yourself. The Maker of the universe delights in you, His beloved child.

Looking forward to another great day!

Value Every Moment

Value Every Moment

“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
(Psalm 90:12, NIV)

Have you stopped to consider that today is a special gift from God? Sometimes, our days can be so full and busy that we forget how fragile life really is. It can be easy to allow little things to creep in and steal our peace and joy. Maybe something doesn’t go our way, or someone says something upsetting. Even traffic can cause us to lose focus if we let it. We have to remember that each day is a gift. If we choose to focus on what’s wrong, we’ll miss the blessing that each day has to offer.

I encourage you today; don’t let the precious moments of life pass you by. Don’t wait for holidays and birthdays to show people that you care. Remember, each day is unique and irreplaceable. You have been given time that can be invested or wasted; hours that can be used or misused. That’s why the psalmist prayed to God, “Teach us to number our days.” He was saying, “Teach us to value every moment we’ve been given.” As you daily keep a proper perspective, you’ll gain a heart of wisdom. You’ll draw closer to God and experience the full blessing that He has for you each and every day!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father, thank You for the gift of today. I choose to focus on the blessing of each moment instead of allowing the little things to steal my joy. Keep me close to You always as I surrender every area of my heart and mind to You in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Effective Prayer
Read | Mark 11:24-25

John 14:14 reads, “If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.” People sometimes interpret this to mean that any request ending with the words “in Jesus’ name, amen” will automatically be fulfilled.

Yet basing our entire concept of prayer on one isolated verse could lead to a skewed perspective. It is also important to consider . . .

Our Fellowship with God. For the Lord to hear and answer prayers, we must first be saved from our sin through the blood of Jesus. Once we have trusted Christ as Savior, God will hear us only when we walk in righteousness before Him. As we saw yesterday, He understands our weakness and doesn’t expect perfection. But if we knowingly continue in sin and fail to repent, He will not listen.

Our Request. Some people think of the words “in Jesus’ name” as a magic charm, but nothing can force the Lord’s hand. This saying did originate from a good motive, though—the desire to request only what is consistent with Jesus’ character. We should pray in faith, believing that God is able and will do whatever is in His will. And we should readily submit our desires to Him.

Our Motive. The Lord won’t say yes to prayer that will hurt us or derail His purpose. When we bring supplications before Him, we must check our motive. Is our goal to glorify God and let others see Him in us? Or is our motive selfish, greedy, or impure?

Our heavenly Father tells us to pray. And He will answer when our hearts
are clean.

Looking forward to another great day....

The Enemy's Strategy

Joni and Friends Daily Devotional

The Enemy's Strategy

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."           Psalm 139:14

This morning I was having a rough start getting out of bed. My paralysis was giving me fits. I shook my head and growled, "This body is a pain... I hate it!"

Why was that so awful? Because the Enemy has a deep hatred of my flesh and blood and all I was doing was agreeing with him. He gets a charge when I bad-mouth my body. And he would like to get you to do the same.

Why? Because your body, even underneath wrinkles or fat, and despite the ravages of illness or old age, is made in the image of God. Your heart, mind, hands, and feet are stamped with the imprint of the Creator. Little wonder that the Devil wants you to be ashamed of your body!

This morning I had, once again, to plug my ears against the lies of the Tempter and remember that I am "fearfully and wonderfully made." I rehearsed the old, familiar truth that God has a plan for this flesh and blood of mine. That's why the Devil considers my body a threat-he understands that when I yield to God my body, albeit paralyzed, my feet and hands are powerful weapons against his forces of darkness.

The Devil is only a fallen angel. He is a deceiver. He is doomed for destruction. And until then, he has one goal in mind: your spiritual defeat, emotional malignment, and physical frustration. If he tries to get you to agree with him today... don't.

Calls It Like He See It

Calls It Like He Sees It

“...the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.”
(Romans 4:17, NIV)

TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria

Just as God calls things that are not as though they were, we should also declare what we want to see in our lives. In other words, you may have days when you don’t feel well, but don’t go around saying, “Ah, my back has been hurting me. I’m getting so old. I don’t think I’m ever going to get better.” When you speak like that, you are speaking defeat into your future. Instead, turn it around. Declare a report of victory by saying, “I may not feel up to par, but I know it’s only temporary. God is restoring health to me. I’m getting stronger, healthier and feeling younger. My best days are still up ahead.”

Remember, you’re going to get what you call in to your life. You have creative power in your words, and you are prophesying your future. Declare what God says about you — call it like He sees it. Declare that you are blessed and cannot be cursed. Declare hope, life and victory over every area of your life!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father, thank You for entrusting me with Your creative power. I choose to declare words of life and victory. Help me, by Your Holy Spirit, to use my words to move forward in victory the way You have planned in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Highs -n- Lows Living with the Disease

Another Beautiful Morning!  I'm a little tired this morning.  I woke up at 4am took my meds and went back to bed.  I couldn't get back to sleep so I'm up for my day.  Put on a pot of coffee, reading my bible study and writing my blog.  There are days I sit back and wonder if I should continue the blog but I think right now it's helping me release my thoughts.  Sometimes it won't make any sense to anyone else but at least I'm keeping my sanity and expressing my heart and soul.  Being cooped up and in the dark most of the time can be difficult at times.

I've been reading a lot more, on Facebook reading others posts and enjoying my time with Paul, the kids and grandkids as much as I can.  Life is short and it takes a lot of different turns that we may not be ready for but ready or not you keep moving on.

Today's bible study is about answerd prayers and I have seen so many in my lifetime.  I will continue praying for healing and other things on my mind.  I know God is there listening.
The other day I requested prayers from a couple of great friends. I wasn't sure what was going on, the black bm.  It could be upper GI issues, bleeding, but we still haven't figured it out yet.  I need to make an appointment with my primary so she can schedule a swallow test and scope.

Anyway one of my great friends sent me this reply...

I'm praying too for the Lord to reveal to you....to us....what needs to happen or change in order to receive healing. Teach us Lord...Amen!

Isn't it the truth. sometimes we have other things to deal with or that gets in the way before God can do His thing.  I'm trusting Him to help me through these confusing times...thank you Lord for being there for me...Amen!

So thankful for my family and friends...

Answered Prayer
Read | Matthew 7:7-11

In His Word, our Father commands us to pray continually (1 Thess. 5:17). And He promises that when we ask, we will receive (Luke 11:9). Yet how often has silence seemed to be the answer to our prayer requests?

The Lord wouldn’t tell us to pray if He were not going to respond. In fact, He points out that any father who loves his children gives them what they need and what is good (vv. 11-13). And He, as our heavenly Father, will provide so much more. But if we want God to respond, we must meet three important conditions.

First, we must have a right relationship with Jesus Christ by trusting Him as Savior. But some people choose to live in ungodliness even after salvation. Scripture states, “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me” (Ps. 66:18 kjv). This doesn’t mean we can never make a mistake—God understands our frailty. But we must repent of all known sin and avoid continuing in it.

Second, we must make right requests. Scripture reminds us to ask according to God’s will (1 John 5:14). That means we can share our hopes and desires while submitting to whatever He deems best. Over time, certain yearnings may lose appeal or give us a check in our spirit.

Third, we should pray specifically and with confidence. When making requests aligned with God’s will, we can be sure He’ll answer.

Our heavenly Father tells His children to pray and assures that He will respond. As you present your requests, ask Him to show you if anything is getting in the way of His answer.

Looking forward to another great day...

Highs -n- Lows Living with the Disease

Another Beautiful Morning!

Yesterday, I decided to pick up Kaylee and run over to visit grandmas in Faribault. Both grandmas were having a great day...:-) We ate lunch with grandma Faye and then over to see grandma Gloria for an ice cream treat.  Last time I was there grandma Gloria didn't remember Kaylee, Erik or Christine.  She knew Kaylee this time:-) So far she seems to remember me...

.        Before we left for home Kaylee and I brought grandma Gloria down to listen to some old time music also.  This is good :-)

Everyday I try to keep the focus off myself and the illnesses and onto something else. Even if I'm in pain or have other symptoms I want to stay focused on life not my conditions. DM and Lupus will not define who I am or what I can do.  I continue to try to live life to the fullest.  So many things left to do and places to see.
I won't give up on life and all it has to offer.

When I was at my last Dr appointment she went over foods that could cause inflammation.  With the inflammation comes pain so I am going to be very careful to stay away from those.

I am so thankful for all I can do...

--------------------
“Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you...”
(2 Timothy 1:6, NKJV)

Do you need some freshness in your life today? It’s probably time to stir up what God has placed on the inside of you. It’s time to stir up those gifts, stir up those dreams, stir up those talents inside. Start stretching yourself. This doesn’t just mean making New Year’s resolutions; this means tapping into the destiny God has placed in your heart.

Scripture tells us that without vision, people perish. If you don’t have a dream, you’re not really living the way God intends; you’re merely existing. Maybe at one time you had a dream, but you went through some disappointments or setbacks. Things didn’t turn out the way you planned. But here’s a key: when one dream dies, dream another dream. Just because it didn’t work out the way you had it planned doesn’t mean that God doesn’t have another plan. You cannot allow one disappointment or even a series of disappointments to convince you that your dream is over. It’s time to dig your heels in and hold on to the promises in your heart. As you stir up those God-given dreams and desires, He’ll pour out His favor and blessings and fulfill every desire in your heart!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father, I come humbly to You. I give You my past, my disappointments, my brokenness. I choose forgiveness and peace. Fill me with Your hope and expectation as You fulfill the dreams and desires that You have placed within me in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Hope for a Changing World
Read | Romans 5:1-5

The rapid changes in our world can give us a sense of uncertainty and unease. We can be thrown off balance by the suffering we see around us, the evolving technology that outpaces our ability to absorb it, and the daily rise and fall of financial markets. Sometimes what seems worthwhile today has less value tomorrow.

As problems mount, we can become discouraged and lose heart. But basing all our hope on man’s ability to solve problems or modify a situation is not the answer. We can achieve only temporary peace when we alter our own circumstances or adjust our outward behavior.

The root problem in our culture is spiritual—namely, man has a sin nature that is at enmity with God. Sin prompts us to look out for ourselves and pursue what we want. Neither our intellect nor talent could have changed our sinful state or brought us peace with God. However, those who trust Jesus as Savior receive a new nature and are reconciled to the Lord. As His adopted children, not only are we at peace with Him but we’ve also been given the power to live in harmony with one another. No matter how much life changes, we can have hope, for we are anchored to a firm foundation that will never be shaken (Isa. 28:16).

The believer’s hope rests in the Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Our heavenly Father knows each of us by name (Isa. 43:1). Our Savior keeps every divine promise (2 Cor. 1:20). And the Holy Spirit assures us that we are secure in Christ, both in this life and in the life to come.

Looking forward to another great day....

Highs -n- Lows Living with the Disease

Another Beautiful Day! Yesterday, we had another day of snow and blowing snow. :-( This morning our temps are close to zero.  Brrrrr

I took a nap yesterday morning...I guess I needed it.  I slept for a couple of hours.  When laying in bed and sitting on the couch I had the tingling going up and down both sides of my body...
Overnight I woke up needing to scratch my scalp a lot...I'm having other symptoms...I'm feeling itchy all over but mine feels like it's on the inside.

Some of my medicine was changed at my last appointment.
Dr Danning thought I should discontinue the ibuprofen.... So I'm going to try to manage without it. I am also starting over on one medicine...I'm back to taking one pill and then after a month go up to two pills.  If the trio of pills don't work then we are going to the IV Rituxin.  I would get 4 a year.  The infusions are 10,000.00 each. I'm hoping the trio of pills work because we are running out of options.  I'm still on 20mg of prednisone along with everything else.

I was watching Dr Phil yesterday...he was talking to women addicted to pain meds and I'm not going to be one of those.  I take several kinds of pain medicine but all are at low doses.  I will see how much I can stand without the ibuprofen and then have Dr Danning reduce the next pain medication.  I was in a lot of pain yesterday and that was only one day without it. :-(

I start the health coach and physical therapy on Monday.  I need to see how this goes also before making too many changes to the pain medicine.

So thankful for all I can do...

“If only you carefully listen to the voice of the Lord your God...”
(Deuteronomy 15:5, AMP)

All through the day, there are two voices that compete for our attention — the voice of faith and the voice of defeat. You’ll hear a voice saying, “You’ll never rise any higher. You don’t have what it takes. You’ve reached your limit.” But if you listen carefully, you’ll hear another voice saying, “You are well able. You can do all things through Christ. Your best days are still up ahead.” You are the one who gets to choose which voice has power in your life.

The moment you verbalize a thought, you give it the right to come to pass. When you speak faith, you’re in agreement with God. When you speak defeat, you’re in agreement with the enemy. God-talk brings God on the scene. Enemy-talk brings the enemy on the scene.

Why don’t you get in agreement with God today? The negative voice may be louder, but you can override it. You can take away all of its power by simply choosing the voice of faith. Choose to declare favor, blessing and increase over your life so that you can walk in the victory the Lord has in store for you.

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father, today and every day, I choose the voice of faith and victory. I declare that I am rising up higher in You, that I can do all things because You give me strength. I bless You and honor You in everything I say and do in Jesus’ name. Amen.

An Exercise in Casting Cares
Read | Psalm 55:16-22

God’s shoulders are wide enough to carry your burdens. He is sovereign over the universe, so He is certainly capable of working out problems and meeting needs. Today I want to give you an exercise that will help make casting your cares a practical act.

First, write on a piece of paper the things that cause your anxiety. Once you start writing, you may discover a list of items that cheat you out of peace.

Next, pray each issue into God’s care. Recall Psalm 18:35, which promises that He upholds believers in His loving grasp.

Finally, as you pray, visualize placing the situation into God’s omnipotent hands. For example, a woman may imagine handing over to the Lord what she owes, while saying, “Father, I give You my financial anxiety. I know that You will show me how to get out of debt. You are more than sufficient to handle it, and I trust You to guide me.”

Some people may protest this suggestion because humanistic and pseudo-spiritual movements also use a method they refer to as “visualizing.” Don’t let anyone steal what is rightfully yours. God creates word pictures throughout the Bible. This exercise merely creates a mental snapshot of the Lord doing exactly what He says He will do (Ps. 55:22; Matt. 6:25-26).

When you have transferred all of your worries to God’s hands, wad up that paper in your fist, and then destroy it. In this way, you symbolize the transaction that just took place. Your cares are no longer yours. Every one of them belongs to the Lord. Walk away in perfect peace.

Looking forward to another great day...

Our Constant Friend
Read | 2 Timothy 4:16-18

Many of us have experienced times of abandonment by others just when we needed them most. It could have been a spouse withdrawing emotionally, a co-worker who ignored you, or a close friend who was too busy to help. The life of the apostle Paul teaches us how to avoid discouragement in such situations.

Remember that the Lord is with us always. When we trust Jesus as our Savior, we enter into a relationship with Him, and His Spirit comes to live in us. Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus remains with us at all times, regardless of the circumstance. He is our friend—one who will never leave us. And His is the most important friendship we have. Reading our Bible will help us to remember this.

Draw on God’s strength. Through the Holy Spirit, we have access to divine power every minute of the day. When we let go of control and depend on the Lord, we will be able to draw on His strength. Then, if family or friends cause hurt, His presence will provide comfort and help us to forgive them.

Look expectantly for deliverance. Paul testified that the Lord had rescued him and would continue to deliver him from every evil situation. The apostle knew he could always trust God.

Paul faced many painful situations without the support of friends. Toward the end of his life, those who cared about him were widely scattered. Yet his attitude remained hopeful because Christ was his constant Friend. Do you know the Savior? Allow His presence to walk with you throughout your day, and experience the joy His friendship brings.

Looking forward to another great day.

Highs -n- Lows Living with the Disease

Another Beautiful Morning!  Winter weather advisor is starting tonight through tomorrow... Yuck

Yesterday, I had cloudy pee and dark bm.  Last night I wasn't feeling very well again...I felt like throwing up.  I went to bed at 8:30pm. I slept in bed until 11:30pm and went out to sleep on the couch...
I woke up with a really bad headache at 5:00am.  I took my morning medicine and took a bath...went back to sleep until 8:00am.  I'm having the shooting pains going down my right side this morning.  They are very sharp pains...

I got a call that my disability hearing isn't until April 9th and will be held in the cities.  At least I finally heard something from them...I just want it over already...

So thankful for all I can do...

A Reason for Confidence
Read | Philippians 4:10-13

Negativity affects us both spiritually and physically. Simply spending time with a pessimistic individual can take a toll. On the other hand, positive emotions, particularly godly confidence, can empower us to live fully, as the Lord intends.

Facing each day with the knowledge that our strength comes from Jesus will drive away doubt and anxiety. Yet many things can interfere with a healthy outlook. For example, we often allow wrong advice and negative attitudes to drain us. Sin, too, will keep our hearts from finding full confidence in God. And sometimes false guilt creeps into our minds and robs us of assurance as well.

Instead, we can purposefully develop confidence in almighty God by maturing in our faith. Meditating on the Word, drawing near to the Lord in prayer, and choosing to believe Him are all ways to strengthen our relationship with the Father. The more our friendship with Him deepens, the more unshakable our trust will become.

As Christians, we have every reason to live with assurance—we have the very presence of God living within us (John 14:17). But in addition, we also have His peace, power, and provision (Phil. 4:7, 13, 19).

Our world is full of distrust, fear, and uncertainty. Don’t allow yourself to listen to negative messages, which can make you lose the confidence God gives His children. Instead, focus on the truth in Scripture, as well as the glory and victory of Jesus. Let His perfect love cast out your fear (1 John 4:18).

Looking forward to a great day...

Highs -n- Lows Living with the Disease

Another Beautiful Day!  I read today's high is going to be around 37 degrees.  :-) I love it!

My left hand froze up again on Friday night...I had to up the prednisone to help with the freeze and other symptoms I'm experiencing.  I have my Dr appointment on Monday with Dr. Danning.  I will see what direction she wants me to go...

I know I've had a hard time waiting on God to work.  I will try harder to wait and let Him work in and through me. Amen

So thankful for all I can do...

“I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust!”

(Psalm 91:2, AMP)

TODAY’S WORD from Joel and Victoria

What are you saying of the Lord today? In other words, what are you declaring that God will do in your life? The next verse in this passage says, “And He will cover me, deliver me and protect me.” Notice the connection: “I will say” and “He will do.” What a wonderful promise! On the other hand, if we’re not saying anything, we’re not releasing our faith. So you could read the passage in the reverse, “I will not say of the Lord, and He will not do.”

Always remember that your words have creative power. Life and death are in the power of the tongue. When you declare who God is in your life, you are displaying your faith and trust in Him. Faith is what pleases God and opens the door for Him to move in your life. Today, declare God’s greatness in your life. Declare that He is faithful. Say of the Lord and watch what He will do on your behalf!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY

Father, thank You for Your goodness and faithfulness in my life. I choose Your promises. I choose to declare that You are my Refuge and my Fortress. I will trust and hope in You all the days of my life in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Be strong and let your heart take courage.

Psalm 27:14

It is wise to wait upon the Lord in order to receive His clear direction for our lives, to keep in step with His timing, to prepare us for what He wants to give us in life, and to sift our motives.

But how are we to wait? What should be the attitude with which we wait? How can we position ourselves to receive His help?

God expects us to wait:

Patiently. Making quick decisions often means making wrong decisions and forcing action when God is planning a different approach and outcome. As difficult as it may seem, we must wait until we are certain God has spoken to us.

Quietly. We cannot hear God’s still small voice when we drown Him out with our clamorous anxiety.

Full of trust. Doubting God stymies what He wants to do in your life and for you. His Word and His promises are unfailingly true, and it honors Him when you live out your faith in trust and confidence in Him.

Steadfastly. It can be so tempting to act on impulse or to follow the advice of others. While God may use other people or circumstances to lead you, what you are hearing or experiencing must always square with God’s Word.

Courageously. Sometimes waiting requires the courage to suffer through difficult or harsh circumstances. God often strengthens us through trials, increasing our faith even as His hand undergirds us.

Highs -n- Lows Living with the Disease

Another Beautiful Morning!
We stayed in Kearney, MO. last night.  We had a great time visiting with the kids and grandkids in Oklahoma.  I am so thankful we are able to take these trips.  We ate lunch with Nolan at school and spend time with Grant and Lee during the week.  They didn't have to go back to school until this coming Monday...
We had the opportunity to stay with Joanna in Yukon this trip.  We had a great time spending time with her since she wasn't able to make it home for Christmas.

So thankful for all I can do...

Confidence That Empowers
Read | Philippians 4:10-13

Our world emphatically proclaims the importance of self-esteem, which is a favorable impression of oneself. Surely, we are told, an individual who values himself highly will accomplish much. Yet Scripture tells us that true confidence flows, not from self, but from our identity in Christ.

In God’s Word, we learn that Paul experienced this appropriate assurance. He expressed certainty regarding the message and ministry God gave him (Rom. 1:16; Gal. 1:15-17). The apostle was also sure of eternal security in Jesus (Rom. 8:37-39). Today’s passage also shows that Paul stood firmly on his belief that He could do anything in God’s will because Jesus was living through him.

The Holy Spirit is the basis for our confidence—not positive thinking, right circumstances, or the ability to think highly of ourselves. Even in the midst of difficulty, we can live with boldness because the Spirit of the living God lives in us and enables us to follow Him.

Of course, we have a role too. The Spirit directs us and strengthens us, but we are responsible to listen, obey, and diligently follow His guidance each day. We can have assurance in an unstable world because almighty God provides everything we need to live triumphantly.

Are you facing situations that make you feel inadequate or insecure? Search the Bible for descriptions of the Lord’s character. Realize that our sovereign, almighty God—the Beginning and the End—lives inside of you through His Holy Spirit. Find your confidence in your Creator, Redeemer, and Friend.

Finding the Normal in Life

I want to share this letter I found talking about living with a chronic illness...it speaks for me living with DM(mysitis) and Lupus also...

I have been trying to find the normal in my new life but everyday is so different and some very difficult.  One day I may feel good and the next day I'm in a lot of pain and unable to move around or even think clearly...

I'm on a lot of medicine to help keep the attacks on my body under control but they don't always work so I have to wait for the flare to go away.  When going through it, it can feel like eternity but so thankful when on the other side.

Don't take your health for granted...appreciate all you can do now and live it to the fullest...

Letter To Normals: Getting Others To See Your Symptoms
by Ricky Buchanan *

These are the things that I would like you to understand about me before you judge me …

Please understand that being sick doesn’t mean I’m not still a human being. I have to spend most of my day flat on my back in bed, and I might not seem like great company, but I’m still me stuck inside this body. I still worry about school and work and my family and friends, and most of the time I’d still like to hear you talk about yours too.

Please understand the difference between “happy” and “healthy.” When you’ve got the flu, you probably feel miserable with it, but I’ve been sick for years. I can’t be miserable all the time, in fact I work hard at not being miserable. So if you’re talking to me and I sound happy, it means I’m happy. That’s all. I may be tired. I may be in pain. I may be sicker than ever. Please, don’t say, “Oh, you’re sounding better!” I am not sounding better, I am sounding happy. If you want to comment on that, you’re welcome.

Please understand that being able to stand up for five minutes doesn’t necessarily mean that I can stand up for ten minutes, or an hour. It’s quite likely that doing that five minutes has exhausted my resources and I’ll need to recover. Imagine an athlete after a race. They couldn’t repeat that feat right away either. With a lot of diseases you’re either paralyzed or you can move. With this one it gets more confusing.

Please repeat the above paragraph substituting, “sitting up,” “walking,” “thinking,” “being sociable” and so on … it applies to everything. That’s what a fatigue-based illness does to you.

Please understand that chronic illnesses are variable. It’s quite possible (for me it’s common) that one day I am able to walk to the park and back, while the next day I’ll have trouble getting to the kitchen. Please don’t attack me when I’m ill by saying, “But you did it before!” If you want me to do something, ask if I can and I’ll tell you. In a similar vein, I may need to cancel an invitation at the last minute. If this happens, please don’t take it personally.

Please understand that “getting out and doing things” does not make me feel better, and can often make me seriously worse. Fibromyalgia may cause secondary depression (wouldn’t you get depressed if you were stuck in bed for years on end!?) but it is not caused by depression. Telling me that I need some fresh air and exercise is not appreciated and not correct — if I could do it, I would.

Please understand that if I say I have to sit down / lie down / take these pills now, that I do have to do it right now — it can’t be put off or forgotten just because I’m doing something.

Please understand that I can’t spend all of my energy trying to get well. With a short-term illness like the flu, you can afford to put life on hold for a week or two while you get well. But part of having a chronic illness is coming to the realization that you have to spend some energy on having a life now. This doesn’t mean I’m not trying to get better. It doesn’t mean I’ve given up. It’s just how life is when you’re dealing with a chronic illness.

If you want to suggest a cure to me, please don’t. It’s not because I don’t appreciate the thought, and it’s not because I don’t want to get well. It’s because I have had almost every single one of my friends suggest one at one point or another. At first I tried them all, but then I realized that I was using up so much energy trying things that I was making myself sicker, not better. If there was something that cured, or even helped, all people with Fibro then we’d know about it. This is not a drug-company conspiracy, there is worldwide networking (both on and off the Internet) between people with Fibro. If something worked, we would KNOW.

If after reading that you still want to suggest a cure, then do it, preferably in writing, but don’t expect me to rush out and try it. If I haven’t had it suggested before, I’ll take what you said and discuss it with my doctor.

Please understand that getting better from an illness like this can be very slow. People with Fibro have so many systems in their bodies out of equilibrium, and functioning wrongly, that it may take a long time to sort everything out.

I depend on you — people who are not sick — for many things.

But most importantly, I need you to understand me.

*A “Letter to Normals” by Ricky Buchanan originally appeared online in 1995 at http://notdoneliving.net. Since then, she has been happy to share this worldwide. We wanted to share it with all of you.

The God Who Rescues
Read | Hebrews 10:1-14

In ancient Israel, the priests were continually offering sacrifices to atone for the people’s sins. Specifically, the high priest annually entered the most sacred room in the temple to prepare a sacrifice that would absolve the entire nation of sin for that year. This room, which is known as the Holy of Holies, was where God’s Spirit dwelled in those days.

Jesus’ death on the cross and His resurrection changed the process. He became the High Priest, and the sacrifice was His own life—an offering powerful enough to pay the sin debt of all mankind. Through Jesus’ one offering, He made holy any person who trusts in Him as Savior. He does not have to die every year. And unlike the Jewish priests who could enter God’s presence only once annually, Jesus sat down at the Father’s right hand, to remain in His holy presence forever. There, Christ continues His work as High Priest by interceding on behalf of believers when Satan accuses them.

God recognized that in our humanity, we would remain weak—even after being born again (John 3:3; 2 Cor. 12:9). So His rescue plan extends beyond pardoning our sins. He also sends His Holy Spirit to indwell every Christian. That means the Helper is always present to guide us in making wise, righteous decisions.

The Father’s redemption plan meets all of mankind’s needs. Jesus Christ offered a perfect sacrifice to cover our every sin, and now He continues to intercede on our behalf. At the same time, the indwelling Holy Spirit molds us into holy creatures while helping us to avoid temptation.

Looking forward to another great day...

Our God of Grace
Read | Ephesians 2:4-5

Grace is God’s favor and love shown to mankind. We cannot earn it or ever be good enough to deserve it. To truly appreciate His grace, we need to comprehend certain truths about Him and ourselves.

First, God is absolutely holy, and sin cannot coexist with the sacred perfection of His presence. When Adam and Eve chose to eat from the forbidden tree, their intimate relationship with Him was broken. Since all future generations inherited their sinful nature, every person is born with a nature bent away from the Lord.

Next, God’s character is just. As a result, He requires payment for sin. The penalty He demands is death (Rom. 6:23), not just physically but also spiritually through eternal separation from Him.

Finally, we have a merciful God who does not treat us as our actions deserve but instead extends His grace toward us. He devised a plan that would affirm His holy nature, meet the requirements of His justice, and enable us to become members of His family: He sent His Son to accomplish our salvation. Born as a human being, Jesus lived a perfect life and fulfilled the Law. He alone was qualified to satisfy divine justice. Christ took our place, bore our sins, and experienced God’s wrath over our rebellion—all so that we could be reconciled to the Father.

God made this provision for our salvation while we were still sinners (Rom. 5:8). Have you acknowledged your sinful state and received His forgiveness through faith in Jesus? If so, are you expressing ongoing thankfulness for His grace?

Looking forward to another great day....
